Google Phases Out Gemini Gems Feature in Favor of Skills Integration

Google is discontinuing the Gemini Gems feature, which allowed custom AI assistants for specific tasks, and will migrate these to a new 'skills' framework across its AI ecosystem. The transition will occur automatically for users, though the skills interface requires a slash command (/) for activation, which may limit usability compared to alternative AI platforms.

As all-in-one AI agents like Meta's Muse and Instinct take off, Google is opting to end a feature which built task-specific agents.
