Older CNN Outperforms State-of-the-Art LLMs in Skin Cancer Diagnosis
A study found a 10-year-old convolutional neural network (CNN) achieved 62% accuracy in skin cancer diagnosis, outperforming state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs) which achieved 42% accuracy. The CNN was fine-tuned on a public dermatology dataset and demonstrated superior performance in identifying malignant lesions compared to GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable 5.1.
