Determining the Longest Straight Line Paths Over Earth's Water and Land Surfaces

This paper presents a branch-and-bound algorithm methodology to determine the longest straight-line paths over Earth's water and land surfaces, addressing complex optimization challenges posed by fractal coastlines and geographical obstacles. The study provides solutions to two classic problems: the maximum sail-only distance and the maximum drive-only distance on Earth's surface.
